Nation’s Most Innovative Education Leaders Honored
Awards Gala Emceed by Nick Clooney, Journalist and Host of AmericanLife TV

Washington, D.C. – Some of the most innovative leaders in education will be honored with the 2008 Cable’s Leaders in Learning Awards at a ceremony Wednesday, June 18th at the Library of Congress. This year’s winners include educators who are sharing effective teaching methods worldwide via blogs and streaming videos, connecting students to their communities while raising money for orphans in South Africa, producing a student-led documentary on the fabled Bronx borough of New York City, or providing parents a way to connect with their children’s teachers through ATM-like kiosks in grocery stores among other innovative approaches. The winners also include administrators, university faculty, and state and federal policymakers.
In Washington, D.C., for four days of activities celebrating their accomplishments by the cable industry and Cable in the Classroom, the honorees will be the special guests at the June 18th awards gala.

Cable’s Leaders in Learning Awards – founded by Cable in the Classroom, the cable industry’s national education foundation – honors individuals for their leadership in education. Eleven honorees across four award categories were selected – with the help of expert reviewers – from applications submitted from around the country, and policymakers also are being recognized for their service. Awards are open to any individual who plays a hand in the education of America’s youth, from classroom teachers, to community volunteers, to elected officials at all levels of government.
